Special Educational Needs

At Bickleigh School, we are committed to providing an inclusive education for all. Throughout their school life some children, for different reasons, may require extra support in their learning that is ‘additional to and different from’ that of their peers. Children may at this time be placed on the Special Educational Needs Register.  At Bickleigh School this means that your child will have a School Based Plan (SBP), written by their class teacher, with clear and structured targets to enable them to make progress. They will receive support in their learning, from a member of staff either in class, in a group or 1:1 in relation to the targets given. This additional provision is monitored by our Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCo). Children remain on the register for varying amounts of time and the aim is that every child is supported to become a successful learner and challenged to achieve at the highest level.

At Bickleigh School, we aim to offer an effective inclusive provision. Ordinarily Available Inclusive Provision (OAIP) refers to the support and practices that all schools in Devon are expected to offer to all children and young people, including those with SEND, using the resources already available within the school. By embedding inclusive practices into everyday teaching, we aim to meet the diverse needs of our pupils and create a school community where everyone feels valued and supported.
