Class 3
In RE this term, we will be learning about Judaism and reflecting on the question: How do festivals and family life show what matters to Jewish people? We will also be learning about Islam and investigating the key question: How do festivals and worship show what matters to a Muslim?
In English, we will be studying a variety of different texts that link to the themes of ‘Hope and Healing’ and ‘Relationships and Companionship’. We will begin by reading ‘Escape from Pompeii’ which links nicely with our Geography topic. We will then be reading two books by the author Joseph Coelho: ‘If All the World Were’ and ‘Our Tower’, as well as the story ‘Nen and the Lonely Fisherman’ by Ian Eagleton. The children will be writing diaries, letters, adverts and stories.
In Maths, in year 2, we will be learning about money, multiplication and division, length and height and mass, capacity and temperature. In year 3, we will be working on multiplication and division and applying our knowledge to written methods. After that, we will be learning about length and perimeter, fractions and mass and capacity.
This term, we will be geographers learning all about Mountains and Volcanoes. We will be finding out how mountain ranges are formed and where some of the highest are located. We will also learn how volcanoes are formed and what causes them to erupt and the impact this has on human life. Alongside this, we will be using atlases and digital maps to locate some of these landmarks around the world and use maps to locate them around the world.
In Art, we will be transforming 2D card shapes into 3D structures and sculptures; exploring abstract shapes and space, developing skills in constructing 3D objects, and understanding the difference between 2D and 3D art. Thank you for all of the cereal boxes!
In Science, we will be learning all about Electricity. We will be investigating circuits and creating them ourselves. We will be exploring the purpose of a switch in a circuit and investigating which materials are insulators and which are conductors of electricity.
In Computing, we will be focusing on programming and robot algorithms and then data and information- how to use pictograms.
In French, our topic is ‘Les animaux’. In this unit pupils will learn 10 familiar animals and be introduced to the verb ‘I am’ in the foreign language. By the end of the unit pupils will be able to recognise, recall, remember and spell up to 10 animals. This is one of the first sentence building units where pupils will have the knowledge and skills to be able create short phrases with the verb ‘I am’.
In Music, we will learning how to play the recorder this term!
In DT, we will be using our scientific knowledge to design and make a battery-operated light. We will be using everything we learn about electricity and circuits in Science to help us.
