Class 2 Events and Photos
School Year 2021 - 22
Spring 2022
Class 2 were so speedy during the pancake races on Friday. This was our first time doing it and despite some of us feeling a bit unsure, we all persevered and now can’t wait to do it again next year! We are so proud of you all!

Class 2, 3 and 4 enjoyed a very informative and thought-provoking visit from Jess and Bethia at Planet & People this week. We did a workshop based on our ‘Hopes’ for the future and actions in taking care of the planet. They also celebrated the positive reintroductions of beavers and wolves into environments and the impact this had on the wider ecology. The children all wrote postcards for 2047, which were then sealed in a time capsule and buried in the Enironmental Area, with a sapling Oak tree.
Class 2 have been writing some super penguin poems this week and enjoying reading from the beautiful poetry book ‘Tiger, Tiger Burning Bright’ which has an animal poem for every day of the year. Here is the poem for February 16th, for you all to enjoy:
THE KANGAROO
Water beneath the hills,
running slowly from the creek,
towards the hills.
Birds sitting on the branch,
smelling the red flowers
that are growing.
Kangaroo is lying in the shade,
Very tired from hopping around,
he listens to the water,
that is running very slowly.
He is happy, no people around,
to spear him.
He smells the red flowers,
So tired he goes to sleep.

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week. The theme is ‘growing together’. We have taken time to consider how we have grown and how we can help others to grow. Class 2 have been using sensory timers for mindfulness sessions and adding positive self-affirmations to our everyday lives in school. Find out more here: Children's Mental Health Week (childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk)

Thank you to our fantastic BSA who funded two online sessions for Class 2 and Class 3 with Paignton Zoo! This linked to our Science where we are learning about living things and habitats. Matt Lewis introduced us to two giraffes – Janica and Eliska, taught us how to imitate penguin communication and delivered a thought-provoking session on the impact of plastic in our oceans.

In PE, Class 2 have been doing Gymnastics and focusing on our balance points.

Our ‘Create’ board in Class 2 is looking really colourful with the additions of collaged fish and penguins that the children have been making this week, both in school and at home. We are also displaying the amazing facts about penguins that the class have been finding out.
Quick penguin facts: Did you know that a group of penguins is called a ‘huddle’ or a ‘waddle’ and a colony of penguins is called a ‘rookery’?
Class 2 have been learning about the parable of the Lost Son in RE and using this to help us understand and be forgiving.

Autumn 2021
Class 2 have enjoyed making party hats and place mats for our Xmas lunch this week. A huge THANK YOU to the wonderful ladies in the kitchen for our most delicious festive feast!

Class 2 and 3 put on a fantastic performance of ‘A Little Bird Told Me’ to parents and other family members in the village hall this week. We are really proud of how confidently the children spoke their lines and sang their songs throughout the performances!

We have been learning about Christian ceremonies as part of ‘belonging to a faith’ in our RE. The children enjoyed role-playing a wedding in the classroom – complete with vicar, sermon, vows and prayers.

Class 2 have been learning about the diary extracts of Samuel Pepys in our Topic work on The Great Fire of London. We used wet tea bags as a technique to stain paper - in an attempt to recreate paper that looks like it came from 1666!

Class 2 have been retelling the story of The 3 Little Pigs, working collaboratively and using visual story prompts and props. We took it in turns to take on different roles and narrate the story.

Class 2 have begun their new topic on ‘The Great Fire of London’ with a variety of interesting activities to explore this. One activity has been to programme the Bee bot (floor robots) to escape the overcrowded streets of London!

Class 2 have been going ‘space crazy’ with some fantastic additions that have been made both in class and at home. Look at these brilliant control panels which have recently been added to our space station in the classroom.

Class 2 performed their Harvest song ‘Big Red Combine Harvester’ for Class 1 to enjoy during a shared KS1 assembly. We really enjoyed this experience and plucked up the courage to perform to the whole school in Achievement assembly. Well done Class 2, we are really proud of how confident (and tuneful) you all are!

Class 2 have been focusing on ‘Harvest’ in our RE and have created a beautiful display in our reflection area. Thank you to our families for the fantastic produce that you have shared with us!

School Year 2020 - 21
Owl Babies
Class 2 have totally immersed themselves as both readers and writers in the wonderful text ‘Owl Babies.’ We made story maps and learnt the language patterns in the story to invent our own whole-class version. Finally, each child has written an alternative version using their own animal ‘babies’.
We learnt some interesting facts along the way - did you know that baby snakes are called ‘snakelets’, baby hedgehogs are called ‘hoglets’ and baby rabbits are called ‘kittens’?!
The children have also created owl-related art using a variety of different resources - including using their cutting skills to make their own versions of owl feathers.

School Year 2018 - 19
Class 2 visited Tiverton Museum as part of Science week. Exploring how to make a pully work to get the lunch basket to the lighthouse keeper.
Emily and Matilda are exploring their understanding of greater than and less than using some of our equipment and the greedy crocodiles.
Harvey and Henry role playing – Henry is interviewing Harvey as Harvey has lost his dinosaur. We were exploring using adjectives to describe what our dragons look like.

Autumn Term 2018
In the Autumn Term Class 2 visited Bickleigh St Mary's Church. They took part in a viking day and finished off on a Christmas Party

Autumn Term 2017
Class 2 have spent lots of time in the environmental area observing seasonal changes. We looked at the shapes of leaves to identify the names of trees and found out if they were evergreen or deciduous.
We used natural materials to create Autumnal pictures.
An alien came to visit us and asked us to make a mud pie. He liked it so much he asked us to write a set of instructions telling him how to make his own.
